Ever wondered why primers in makeup are important!!!

What are Primers: Primers are essentially cream or gel like products which are used as a layer between skin-care products, your foundation may stay for 3-4 hours, whereas if you apply a primer the foundation should ideally stay for 6-8 hours. It creates a smooth surface for makeup to build. It nourishes dull dry and rough skin. It controls oil, shine and sweat.

Types of Primers:  We have face primers, eye primers, lip primers, mascara primers.
We’ll mostly talk about face primers.

Who needs primers: Everyone who uses makeup.

How to select primer: Based on your skin type:

Oily/ Combination skin people should use gel based primers which will keep the makeup look matte (non-shiny) for long.
Normal/ dry skin people can use cream primers. Most such primers come with fine micro-shimmer particles, which give the skin an inherent glow, which is normally absent from dry skin.

Based on your skin condition: Skin condition here refers to tired/ dull looking skin. If such is the case, you may need a lavender colored primer to brighten up your skin.
Based on your sun-protection requirement: This one is simple- for times when you need sun protection, use an SPF based primer. At other times, use one without SPF.
Based on photography needs: A lot of times, our makeup is done keeping the photography needs in mind. This applies to evening outings, bridal functions, portfolio shoots, etc. If you know photographs will be taken, make sure you use a primer without SPF. For a bride/ model, make sure you use products without SPF especially when flash photography is being done.

How much should I spend on a primer?: Well, budget is one of the most important guiding factors here. Restrict yourself to spending not more than INR 700-1000. That’s the starting price you need to pay for a ‘good’ primer which won’t fail you!

Can I use primer daily? Yes, ofcourse! Like all other make-up products, you can use a primer too daily.

So I’ve bought a primer. How should I use it?  First of all, follow your skin-care routine as per your skin type using the right products to prepare your skin for makeup. Next, apply your primer. You can blend it into the skin using a flat brush or your fingers, just make sure you don’t rub the primer into your skin. Gently apply it to your face and neck. After the primer has been applied, wait for about 3-5 minutes before applying the next product.

5 reasons why your base makeup doesn’t turn up well!

1: You’re Not Exfoliating Enough: Foundation will never look flawless on dry, patchy skin. Make sure you exfoliate your skin regularly.

2: You’re using the Wrong foundation: Finding the perfect match for your skin tone is paramount when it comes to natural-looking foundation. We’ve all seen girls who are clearly wearing a foundation that is too light or too dark for their skin. Choose the color that matches your skin tone.

3: You’re Not Using a Primer: Always apply primer before your foundation, as it is an essential step for a smooth, long-lasting finish. Different primers help with different skin concerns, such as mattifying, illuminating, or concealing redness.

4: You’re Not Using a Setting Powder: Setting powder is key for a long-lasting finish, especially for the oily-skin.

5: You’re not using the Correct Tools: It’s important to remember that different foundation formulas respond better to some application techniques than othersFoundations apply best with fingers, blending sponge or foundation brush. You can ask for advice at the beauty counter or do your own research on what application method is best for your foundation.
